About Us

Knowledge is useless if you don't share it. It is with this belief, and the concept that "Knowledge is power. Knowledge shared is power multiplied," that Power Up Eau Claire was founded in 2019 as a community-led, grassroots civic engagement program grounded in gender, racial, and social justice by Pa Thao, Executive Director of the Black and Brown Womyn Power Coalition, Inc.

Serving the greater Chippewa Valley, Power Up Eau Claire is a community-based, grassroots organization focused on community power building. Our mission is to amplify the voices of Hmong community in the greater Chippewa Valley through civic engagement, strategic community organizing, impactful issue advocacy, and intentional leadership development.  Power Up Eau Claire envisions a vibrant community led by knowledgeable, empowered, and educated individuals who leverage their diverse backgrounds and experiences to drive progressive change, nurturing social, economic, and political well-being for our families and future generations.

We believe that those most impacted should be at the forefront of our movement to build community power. We are dedicated to developing smarter and better-informed Hmong voters in our community who act as agents of change. This work includes providing accurate and up-to-date information to our community in various formats and in both Hmong and English (e.g., videos, social media posts, etc.), conducting outreach initiatives in both languages, and intentionally including those most impacted in our efforts.

We engage our community by focusing on voter registration, election and campaign education, building civic participation, activating our community in issue-based advocacy, providing mutual aid, and developing the leadership of young people and emerging leaders.

In 2024, after 4 successful years of incubating as a program, Power Up Eau Claire became a fiscal project of the Black and Brown Womyn Power Coalition, Inc. pending our IRS 501(c)3 nonprofit status.

"Knowledge is power. Knowledge shared is power multiplied."
